In a world where real life can often feel overwhelming, fantasy games can provide a welcome place to escape, explore and create. ALBIA aims to offer that experience through a living world filled with strange creatures, floating islands, alien nature and lost history.

Currently in development by GrayWolf.Games, ALBIA is a single-player fantasy creature and life simulation. Players will explore its world through a Norn while caring for other Norns, growing families, discovering inherited traits and uncovering the secrets hidden beneath the Mother Tree.

The Appeal of Fantasy Life Simulation

Fantasy life simulation games allow players to step away from the limits of the real world and enter a place shaped by imagination. Instead of following only one fixed path, players can form bonds, care for living creatures, explore unusual lands and create stories through their own choices.

ALBIA takes this idea further by combining life simulation with genetics, creature care, farming, exploration and light survival. The world is designed to feel alive, with each Norn having needs, emotions, memories, relationships and inherited traits.

The aim is not just to complete tasks. It is to watch lives grow and see how each choice affects future generations.

What Makes ALBIA Unique?

At the heart of ALBIA are the Norns: intelligent fantasy creatures with large eyes, wide ears, long tails and many possible body traits.

Norns are not simple pets or background characters. They can learn, form bonds, remember past events, raise young and react to the way they are treated.

ALBIA will feature three main Norn roles:

  • Player Norns are directly controlled by the player. They can explore, interact with the world, use items and gain new traits or abilities.

  • Tameable Norns can be found, hatched, raised, fed, taught, protected and bred.

  • NPC Norns live within the world. They may have homes, jobs, relationships, routines, shops and their own personal stories.

These roles share the same core life systems, helping every Norn feel like part of the same living species.

Creating Your Norn

Players will begin by creating their own Player Norn.

ALBIA does not use fixed classes such as Warrior, Mage or Artisan. Instead, a Norn’s identity will be shaped by its appearance, personality, genes, experiences and mutations.

The character creator is planned to include options for:

  • Head and muzzle shape.

  • Body shape, height and weight.

  • Eyes, pupils and eye colour.

  • Ear and tail types.

  • Hands and feet.

  • Fur colour, length and patterns.

  • Hair style and length.

  • Gender, orientation and personality.

  • Breed and inherited traits.

This allows players to create a Norn that feels personal while still fitting naturally within the species.

A Living Genetics System

Genetics are one of ALBIA’s most important features.

When Norns form families, their young may inherit traits from both parents. Some traits may blend, while others may come from one parent or remain hidden until a later generation.

Inherited traits may affect:

  • Fur colours and patterns.

  • Head, ear and tail shapes.

  • Height and body type.

  • Eye colour and pupil shape.

  • Personality and behaviour.

  • Health and natural strengths.

  • Rare mutations or abilities.

Different bloodlines can slowly develop over many generations. This means two families may become very different, even if they began with similar Norns.

Planned breeds include the Default, Tiger, Giraffe, Deer or Elk, and Drago Norns. Further breeds and traits may be added as development continues.

Needs, Emotions and Memories

Every tameable Norn will have needs that must be cared for. These include health, hunger, thirst, energy, comfort, cleanliness, safety, fun and social contact.

Their emotions will be affected by both their needs and their experiences. A Norn may feel safe, joyful, afraid, lonely, angry, stressed or loved.

Norns will also remember important events. They may remember:

  • Who fed or cared for them.

  • Who frightened or harmed them.

  • Being protected from danger.

  • Sleeping somewhere safe.

  • Being praised or told off.

  • The birth or death of another Norn.

  • The place where they were hatched.

These memories help shape trust. A well-treated Norn may become close to the player, while a frightened or neglected Norn may hide, flee or refuse help.

Even two Norns with the same genes may grow into very different individuals because of the lives they have lived.

Growing, Ageing and Forming Families

Norns will move through a full life cycle:

Egg → Blabber → Junior → Senior → Ancestor → Death

Their bodies and behaviour will change as they grow. A young Norn may slowly become taller before reaching its next main life stage.

Senior Norns can form relationships and raise families. Their young can inherit physical traits, hidden genes and rare mutations from both sides of the family.

When a Norn dies, its loss can affect those who knew it. Other Norns may grieve, feel fear or remember the event. Death is also tied to the lore of the Mother Tree, where the life of a Norn may return to the world.

Exploring the Floating World

ALBIA takes place across large floating islands, each with its own mood, wildlife and purpose.

At the centre of the world stands the Mother Tree. It is not only a vast living tree but also part of an ancient machine. Beneath its roots lies the Mother Vessel, also known as the ARK, containing flooded rooms, lost halls and old systems from the world’s past.

Planned areas include:

  • Verdant Farm Rise, a rich farm island filled with crops, homes, waterways and domestic creatures.

  • Forgotten Hollow, an abandoned Norn village filled with old memories and ruined learning machines.

  • Rootrunner Grove, a wild forest where fast, fox-like Rootrunners live.

  • Glowfen Marsh, a wet and misty land filled with rare glowing plants.

  • Ancient Lumen Ruins, where lost technology and hidden lore can be found.

  • Albia Forest, a vast natural area linked to the Mother Tree and its surrounding islands.

Exploration will help players discover hidden paths, strange resources, old ruins and clues about the beings who shaped ALBIA.

Farming and Alien Nature

Farming is another key part of life in ALBIA.

The crops are inspired by the roles of real fruit, vegetables and grains, but they are entirely new alien species. Plants will grow through several clear stages, beginning as seeds before sprouting, blooming, producing new seeds and becoming ready to harvest.

Players will be able to care for crops and live among unusual farm creatures. Verdant Farm Rise will include crop plots, water paths, fences, homes, storage areas, shops and places where Norns can meet.

Nature can also bring danger. Disease, harmful soil and creatures such as the parasitic Broodrot Maw may threaten animals, Norns and future bloodlines if they are not treated.

Relationships and Norn Communities

Although ALBIA is a single-player game, its world will contain active Norn communities.

NPC and tameable Norns may form friendships, rivalries, family bonds and romantic relationships. Their trust and feelings will change through care, shared events and past memories.

Relationships will not be limited to one fixed type. Norns can have different orientations, partners and reproductive roles. These traits are separate from their physical gender, allowing families to form in many different ways.

The community in ALBIA is therefore the community living inside the game—not online guilds or groups of other players.

Story Mode and Sandbox Mode

Two main ways to experience ALBIA are planned:

  • Story Mode will focus on world lore, discoveries and events linked to the Mother Tree, the ARK and the history of ALBIA.

  • Sandbox Mode will provide more freedom to raise Norns, explore genetics, build bloodlines, farm and shape personal stories.

Both modes will use the same main creature, emotion, relationship and genetics systems.

A World Still Growing

ALBIA is currently in active development. Its Norn models, character creator, user interface, floating islands and core life systems are still being designed and built.

Some details may change as testing continues, but the heart of the game will remain the same: a living fantasy world where creatures grow, remember, form bonds and pass their traits to future generations.

Your Journey Awaits

ALBIA is being created as more than a world to visit. It is a world where life continues to grow around the player.

Every Norn will have a body shaped by its genes, a mind shaped by its memories and a future shaped by the care it receives. Families will grow, bloodlines will change and forgotten parts of the world will slowly reveal their stories.

Whether you choose to explore ancient ruins, care for a farm, raise a family of Norns or search for rare mutations, your choices will help shape the lives within ALBIA.

The world is still growing, and its story is only beginning.
